Findd's Liveness Detection feature provides enhanced security by verifying that a real person is present during a mobile punch. This technology helps prevent fraudulent punches and ensures the integrity of your timekeeping data.
How Liveness Detection Works:
Liveness detection is designed to make sure that a punch comes from a real, live person — not a photo, video, or other spoof. It works by analyzing key signals that distinguish a genuine human face from an imitation.
Real-time movement – The system looks for natural facial motion (like blinking, small head movements, or changes in expression) that can’t be easily faked with a still image.
Depth and reflection checks – It examines whether the face has real depth and natural light reflections, helping it tell the difference between a live person and something like a photo on a screen.
Consistency analysis – The system looks for irregularities such as borders, edges, or patterns that might suggest someone is holding up a picture or trying to trick the camera.
Together, these checks make it very difficult for someone to use static images or pre-recorded videos to punch in. While no biometric system can promise 100% accuracy, our approach makes fraudulent punches significantly harder and ensures that repeat attempts are very likely to be detected.
Disclaimer:
Liveness detection is a powerful tool designed to reduce fraudulent punches by analyzing whether an image or video represents a real, live person. However, no biometric or anti-spoofing system is perfect.
Environmental and technical factors such as lighting, camera quality, and user behavior may affect detection accuracy. In rare cases, individuals may attempt to bypass the system using photos, videos, or other methods that exploit these limitations.
While occasional attempts may go undetected, repeated or consistent fraud attempts are highly likely to be identified by the system. This tool should therefore be considered an important fraud deterrent and detection mechanism, but not an absolute guarantee against all fraudulent punches.
Enabling Liveness Detection for Your Account
To get started with Liveness Detection, simply reach out to our dedicated Findd support team. They will assist you in enabling this security feature for your account and answer any questions you may have.
Enabling Liveness Detection for Individual Employees
Once Liveness Detection has been enabled for your account, you can activate it for specific employees by following these steps:
Navigate to the Employee's Profile: Go to the employee's profile page within the Findd platform.
Locate the Liveness Feature: Scroll down the employee's profile to the User Policy section.
Enable Liveness Detection: Find the option labeled Enable Liveness Detection and toggle it to the ON position.
[Important] Mobile App Requirements
Before activating Liveness Detection for an employee, please ensure that they have updated their Findd mobile app to the latest version. Liveness detection is not available on previous versions.
Liveness is only available on the Findd Engage app, not the Findd legacy app. Please reach out to Findd support for more information on the Findd Engage app.
Android: Version 9.0.285 or higher
iOS: Version 8.2.4 (217) or higher
What Happens When Time Fraud Is Detected?
Our system is designed to capture not only a biometric match (face recognition) but also a liveness score to help identify whether a punch was made by a real, live person or by using a spoof such as a photo or video.
No disruption to the employee – Employees are not alerted to liveness checks. If their face is recognized through standard biometrics, the punch is accepted as normal.
Automatic exception creation – If the liveness score falls below the configured threshold, the system automatically creates an exception in the timecard.
Optional notifications – You can configure email alerts to be sent whenever a Biometric/Liveness exception is generated, so supervisor/managers are notified promptly.
Supervisor/Manager review – From the exception screen, supervisors/managers can review the liveness score along with the photo captured at the time of the punch to determine if fraudulent activity occurred.
This approach ensures that employees are not tipped off during their punch attempts, while giving managers the tools and visibility they need to detect and address potential time fraud.
